Earlier this year, Reese Witherspoon had the role of her career, and the best reviews she’s received in a long time, with her terrific turn in “Big Little Lies” (which she also produced). The HBO series is going go down as one of the best things hit the small screen in 2017, but it seems that Witherspoon’s sense of adventurous and willingness to try something new doesn’t extend to the big screen.
Nancy Meyers‘ (“Something’s Gotta Give,” “It’s Complicated,” “The Holiday“) daughter Hallie Meyers-Shyer has picked up the filmmaking torch, and hasn’t strayed one iota from her mother’s style with “Home Again,” which sees the well-off Witherspoon being overcome by problems that aren’t really problems except in movies. Frankly, this looks and feels like (and seems to have the same budget as) a CBS sitcom, not a feature film. Here’s the official synopsis:

HOME AGAIN stars Reese Witherspoon (“Big Little Lies,” “Wild,” “Walk The Line,” “Sweet Home Alabama“) as Alice Kinney in a modern romantic comedy. Recently separated from her husband, (Michael Sheen), Alice decides to start over by moving back to her hometown of Los Angeles with her two young daughters. During a night out on her 40th birthday, Alice meets three aspiring filmmakers who happen to be in need of a place to live. Alice agrees to let the guys stay in her guest house temporarily, but the arrangement ends up unfolding in unexpected ways. Alice’s unlikely new family and new romance comes to a crashing halt when her ex-husband shows up, suitcase in hand. HOME AGAIN is a story of love, friendship, and the families we create. And one very big life lesson: Starting over is not for beginners.
Co-starring Pico Alexander, Nat Wolff, Jon Rudnitsky, Michael Sheen, Candice Bergen and Lake Bell, “Home Again” opens on September 8th.
I dig Reese
This is going to flop hard. She’s box office poison.
Yeesh. I try to keep an open mind on all movies but you’re right. This looks like s***.
