Sorry Rooney Mara and Emily Blunt, this one belongs to Rebecca Hall. After being rumored alongside the actresses last fall as contenders for the female lead in Wally Pfister‘s “Transcendence,” Hall has emerged the winner and will star alongside Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany in the mysterious movie.
What we do know is that the film is being executive produced by Pfister’s pal Christopher Nolan (along with Emma Thomas and Aaron Ryder), and the plot revolves around an assassinated scientist who gets his brain uploaded to a computer. It’s believed that Hall will play Evelyn, the fellow-scientist wife of Will (Depp) aka the guy who goes into the computer. And well, that’s about it for now. But it’s another great gig for Hall who is finally making a good break stateside, and between this and “Iron Man 3” this spring, will surely have more opportunities coming her way. (And if you missed HBO‘s miniseries “Parade’s End,” track it down because she’s fantastic in it). And oh yeah, she was in Nolan’s “The Prestige,” so there’s that too…
Principal photography is set to begin in April in Los Angeles. Warner Bros. will release the film on April 25, 2014 via its output deal with Alcon.
Does anyone know who wrote the screenplay?
Thanks!
Emily Blunt: The perpetual also-ran in Nolan projects.
Ah perfect. I've been waiting for Hall to catch a break. Still wonder how great she would have been as Lois Lane in Man of Steel
She is perfect for the role. I've read the script and – from the three options (Mara-Blunt- Hall) she is the best option, not only because how great actress she is, but also because the kind of role! She has to be a scientist, a strong woman but at the same time with a weakness, the love of her life <3
Don't understand why ANY of these 3 (Mara, Blunt, Hall) were up for the part of the genius scientist wife. Surely they could have found someone more believable?!!!
Hall >>>> Blunt and Mara
Very happy she got the part over Mara and Blunt despite her arguably lower profile. Nolan seems very loyal to his actors.
Considering she was in Nolan's "The Prestige," it's not that surprising. But still a good choice, even though Emily Blunt woulnd't have been a bad one.
and now who will be Pfister's DP? what Nolan/Pfister's regulars will do a cameo in the movie? i guess Caine
