‘Reality’ With Sydney Sweeney Leads The 2023 Berlin International Film Festival’s Panorama Section

Deadline reports that the Berlin Film Festival has its titles for its Panorama section this February. And while not the Festival’s main titles in competition, it’s a stellar crop of films annually. In the Berlinale’s own words, Panorama titles are “always looking for what is new, daring, unconventional and wild in today’s cinema.” This year’s titles are no different, with Tina Satter‘s debut feature “Reality” with Sydney Sweeney leading the way.

Satter’s film sees Sweeney star as American whistle-blower Reality Winner, sentenced to over five years in federal prison for leaking an intelligence report about Russian interference in the 2016 US elections. The film also stars Josh Hamilton and Marchánt Davis.  Jennifer Reeder‘s follow-up to her 2019 film “Knives And Skin” is also in the line-up.

Perpetrator” stars Alicia Silverstone and Kiah McKirnan in what may be the female director’s most provocative film yet. Here’s its official synopsis, courtesy of Berlinale: “On her 18th birthday, tough-girl Jonny eats a cake baked by her aunt according to a magical family recipe and goes through a radical metamorphosis. As several classmates go missing, a bloody coming-of-age story takes its course.”

Berlin’s Panorama titles also include Vasilis Katsoupis‘ “Inside,” which stars Wllem Dafoe as an art thief.  Ira Sachs returns to the festival with his latest, “Passages,” starring Franz RogowskiBen Whishaw, and Adéle Exarchopoulous. That film has its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival next month. Another promising feature in the lineup includes Sacha Polak‘s “Silver Haze,” about an East London nurse who falls in love with a female patient. 11 of the section’s 14 current films are world premieres. The current lineup features 9 feature films, 4 documentaries, and 1 animated film.
