Syndey Sweeney is already an it-actress for HBO, thanks to her turns on “The White Lotus” and Sam Levinson‘s “Euphoria.” Now add “Reality” to that list: Sweeney stars as American whistleblower Reality Winner in Tina Satter‘s “Reality,” fresh off its world premiere at the Berlinale in February.
With “Reality,” Satter adapts her play “Is This A Room” for her feature film debut. Here’s an official synopsis for the movie, courtesy of HBO:
On June 3, 2017, 25-year-old former American intelligence specialist Reality Winner is confronted by FBI agents arriving at her home to question her suspected role in the mishandling of classified information. Based on true events, the film’s dialogue is directly from the transcript of their tense and transfixing conversation.
Alongside Sweeney, “Reality” also stars Josh Hamilton and Marchánt Davis.
Satter co-writes “Reality” with James Paul Dallas. Noah Stahl, Brad Becker-Parton, Riva Marker, and Greg Nobile produce the film. Executive producers include Ellyn Daniels, Will O’Connor, Daniel Ginsberg, Andrew Beck, Bill Way, Elliott Whitton, Eva Maria Daniells, Philipp Engelhorn, Caitlin Gold, and Satter.
The Playlist’s review for “Reality” from Berlin calls it a “tour de force,” and that “ultimately, it’s Sweeney’s show,” and “Satter displays shrewder judgment for a first-time filmmaker than most.” So is this another star-making turn for Sweeney? Find out when “Reality” premieres on HBO and Max on May 29. Watch a trailer for the film below.
