Ask any cinephile what Stanley Kubrick‘s greatest film is, and you’re likely to get a variety of answers. There is a revisionist camp that asserts the director’s final film “Eyes Wide Shut” is his masterpiece, while others might choose an early work like “Paths Of Glory.” And there are some who will hold up Kubrick’s epic period drama “Barry Lyndon” as his towering achievement. Whether or not you think it’s his finest effort, like any Kubrick movie, it deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible, and those in the U.K. will be able to do that this summer.

BFI is bringing the director’s adaptation of William Thackeray‘s novel back to cinemas, and the newly cut trailer is a reminder why it deserves your attention. Beyond telling the story of the titular character, Kubrick’s film is a visual feast, with the director’s quest for accuracy leading him to shoot in natural or historically accurate lighting, creating some truly arresting images. You won’t want to miss an opportunity to see this in cinemas.
