“Tampopo” tells the story of the titular woman as she joins forces with a cowboy hat-wearing truck driver as they strive to make the perfect bowl of ramen. Dubbed a “ramen western,” the film mixes comedy, food, and sex with great success, receiving rave reviews from many critics including Roger Ebert who said, “‘Tampopo’ is one of those utterly original movies that seems to exist in no known category.” “Tampopo” is the second film from famed Japanese director Juzo Itami and was the breakout role for actor Ken Watanabe.
Janus Films is releasing the new 4K restoration of “Tampopo” starting this Friday, October 21st at Film Forum in New York City and rolling out from there.
