Re-Release Trailer For ‘Close Encounters Of The Third Kind’ Brings Back Steven Spielberg’s Visionary Film

It was kind of crazy to see how opinion wheeled around on Steven Spielberg‘s “Ready Player One” this weekend. The first trailer made nerds all aglow at San Diego Comic Con, but now everyone seems to think the movie is indulging in the worst kind of nostalgia. Or something. That movie is still a long way off who knows what the whims of the internet will decide by then, but hopefully we can all agree that “Close Encounters Of The Third Kind” is a masterpiece. And hopefully, we can even further agree that the movie returning to the big screen is a special event.

Spielberg’s terrific picture celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and Paramount Pictures is trotting it out for a run in cinemas and that’s just fine by us. If you’ve never seen the movie, don’t miss this chance, because it’s Spielberg at his most entertaining and imaginative, telling the story of aliens coming to Earth that’s still pretty awe-inspiring. Here’s the official synopsis:

Universally considered the best film ever made about alien visitation to Earth, Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind was nominated for eight Academy Awards®, winning for Best Cinematography. Power repairman Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) has an extraordinary encounter with a strange spacecraft while out on a call. Recurring visions of a mountain fuel an increasing obsession that drives him to an emotional breaking point. Desperate to understand what he has experienced, he finds an ally in Jillian (Melinda Dillon), a single mother who believes her son has been abducted by the aliens. Meanwhile an international group of scientists led by French expert Claude Lacombe (Francois Truffaut) search for a breakthrough in human-alien communication. Their collective quest culminates in a remote Wyoming rendezvous and an event of unequaled importance in all of human history.

“Close Encounters Of The Third Kind” is back in cinemas for one week only starting on September 1st.

  1. I saw it on my 13th birthday in 77, wondrous,it remains one of my favorite movies, and started my lifelong interest in UFO’s, which are real.

  2. It is my favorite movie of all time. My sister took me to see it when it first came out. I was 4 and I was so scared by the tall guy who comes out first that I barfed. Lucky for me, someone screens it at least once a year here in Austin.
