Opinions of Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” normally fall into one of two camps. The first camp, which is the seeming majority of people, despise the film and don’t even acknowledge the project’s connection to the “Alien” franchise. The other camp (which I find myself in) is entertained by Scott’s film and recognizes it has interesting ideas but doesn’t really qualify as an ‘Alien’ film. That being said, if you dug “Prometheus,” you’re probably going to be intrigued by “Raised by Wolves.”
As seen in the trailer for Scott’s upcoming HBO Max sci-fi series, “Raised by Wolves” tells the story of an android that is tasked with raising (cloned?) human children in a post-apocalyptic Earth that was ravaged by war. And though it doesn’t share any overt DNA with “Prometheus” or the ‘Alien’ franchise, you can see how the two are stylistically and thematically similar. And if all this talk of ‘Alien’ bores you, just get excited for a killer android and some heavy sci-fi coming to HBO Max next month.
The ensemble cast for this sci-fi thriller includes Amanda Collin, Abubakar Salim, Winta McGrath, Niamh Algar, Jordan Loughran, Matias Varela, Felix Jamieson, Ethan Hazzard, Aasiya Shah, Ivy Wong, and Travis Fimmel. As mentioned, “Raise by Wolves” is executive produced by Ridley Scott, who also directs a couple of episodes. Scott’s son, Luke, helms three additional episodes with filmmakers Alex Gabassi, Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, and James Hawes working on the remaining 5 episodes.
“Raised by Wolves” will debut on HBO Max on September 3.
Here’s the synopsis:
From executive producer Ridley Scott, Raised by Wolves centers on two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet. As the burgeoning colony of humans threatens to be torn apart by religious differences, the androids learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a treacherous and difficult task.
