What really makes a family? HBO’s new comedy series “Rain Dogs” explores a dynamic that doesn’t fit into standard conventions. This project — made in conjunction with BBC One — focuses on a family built around a single mother, her young daughter, and a gay friend. It hails from Irish writer Cash Carraway — who is better known for her book “Skint Estate;” the adaptation was initially set to be Carraway’s first project before pivoting to the upcoming series.
Daisy May Cooper leads the cast as Costello Jones — a single mother balancing her own dreams and goals while trying to make the best life for her daughter. The writer and actress starred in the series “Avenue 5” and wrote one of its episodes; she’s joined by “Spencer” and “Poldark” actor Jack Farthing as Selby. “Dogs” also looks to British comedy legends with the casting of Adrian Edmondson — his series “The Young Ones” and “Bottom” have achieved cult status.

The dark comedy stars Daisy May Cooper as Costello Jones, Jack Farthing as Selby, Ronke Adekoluejo as Gloria, Adrian Edmondson as Lenny, and Fleur Tashjian as Iris in her debut role as a dysfunctional family on the fringes of society attempting to go straight in a crooked world.
