When it comes to molotov cocktail-like film premesis, perhaps none are greater, more deliciously wicked than comedian turned filmmaker Bobcat Goldthwait's incendiary and hilarious societal screeds. Always testing the limits of good taste Goldthwait's films have chronicled light beastiality ("Sleeping Dogs Lie") and deep, shameful immorality in a picture about a father who fake's his sons suicide note and then becomes a famous author in the process ("World's Greatest Dad"). His comedies are always pitch, pitch black.
For his latest trick, Goldthwait has created the fantasy revenge black comedy "God Bless America" which centers on a disgruntled man sickened by the downward spiral of America and when diagnosed with a terminal illness he decides to say "fuck it" and with nothing left to lose kills any asshole who gets in his way. Along the way he meets a young teenage girl who becomes utterly fascinated with his nihlistic attitude, which is essentially shoot and kill any fucker who deserves it (high school bitches, those who take up two spaces in the parking lot, etc.). The two then take off on a cross country murdering spree killing every mild jerkoff in sight.
If you've ever had dark revenge thoughts of keying the car of some shithead you know, this is the picture for you. If you've ever had serious rage, disenfranchisement, or wanted to go postal… well, you might actually want to stay away from this picture as it might hit too close to home, but it looks dark and fucking funny.
Starring Joel Murray and Tara Lynne Barr, the very Un-PC "God Bless America" looks gloriously good, and how can it not? The premise is brilliant. Our only concern, Goldwait's pictures always begin scathingly devilish, but by the end of 90 minutes they execution is never quite as roasting as one would hope. Still, the trailer for 'Bless America' looks outstanding, so let's be thankful that dark, wrong and fucked-up pictures like this are actually made.
"God Bless America" will be available, via Magnolia Pictures, on VOD April 6 and in theaters starting May 11.
Saw it the other day. Perfect. fits this hellhole cuntry to a 'T'.
Finally, a message movie I can relate to. This is gonna be ballz.
The A-Holes of this great country better hope I'm never diagnosed with a terminal illness.
And please remember to turn off your cell phone in the theater. Especially any theater I happen to be in. Improperly used cell phones can have detrimental effects on your well-being.
LOL. Insanely.
World's Greatest Dad is cool. Don't know how is this one.
Wow. I enjoyed "World's Greatest Dad", but this looks absolutely awful. The trailer plays like one of those Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer movies only with more violence. And yes, I second Harmony's comment -"Irresponsible" is great word for this. Just terrible.
um… this could be the greatest movie ever made until a couple misguided youngsters agree and decide to go on a copycat killing spree. sorry, but true. Love love love Bobcat and his work but this looks a little overwrought and irresponsible to me. Am I the only one tired of laughing about killing people?
I don't like people, so I kill them. Brilliantly crafted commentary. Elite.
Kids with guns has become somewhat of a fetish all of a sudden. Gotta say, it's a little weird. But this looks like it could swing both ways: silly and dumb or culty and fun
This looks fantastic. World's Greatest Dad surprised me with just how amazing it is. Can't wait.
