Got a Tip?

Quentin Tarantino’s ‘The Hateful Eight’ Reportedly Shooting In November With Cast Of Live Read Starring

Tarantino, hateful eight

From a project he vowed never to make after an early version of the script being leaked, to something that he’s now honed with a subsequent draft and directed a live read from (review here), it looks like Quentin Tarantino is getting back in the, uh, saddle, with “The Hateful Eight.” It looks like the movie is back on with plans to shoot the movie before the end of the year.

At least that’s what Showbiz 411 is reporting, with the site saying the western will roll in front of cameras in November, with basically the entire cast of the live read reprising their roles. So that means the ensemble this time around will include: Samuel L. Jackson as Major Marquis Warren, Kurt Russell as the cruel bounty hunter John Ruth, Tim Roth as the English “bit of a fop” Oswaldo Mobray, Amber Tamblyn as Daisy Domergue, Walton Goggins as Chris Mannix, Michael Madsen as John Gage, Bruce Dern as Confederate Gen. Smithers, James Parks as stagecoach driver O.B., Denis Menochet as the Frenchman Bob, Dana Gourrier as Minnie, Zoe Bell as Six Horse Judy and James Remar as Jody.

As for the movie, it’s a VistaVision post-Civil War chamberpiece if that makes sense, bringing together a bunch of dangerous and eccentric folks, cooping them up in a haberdashery during a blizzard and letting the sparks fly. At the aforementioned live read, the script ran 146 pages, which means another epic outing from Tarantino, and we found it to be “nuanced, entertaining, and formally inventive,” while still retaining the director’s flair for excitement and show-stopping set pieces. Basically, it’s what you want out of a Tarantino film.

Production will apparently take place in Wyoming, where Tarantino shot a good chunk of “Django Unchained,” and while nothing is confirmed, it does look like the stars are aligning for this one.

  1. I too am saddened Christoph Waltz might not be in this. I was hoping he would go for the trifecta and win his third Best Supporting Actor Oscar in a row for a QT film. And I guess QT and Kurt Russel made up after he left the Django set?

  2. was there any major differences between the leaked screenplay and the draft performed at the live reading? the leaked draft was a rather small movie, mostly taking place at an inn. hope it remains that way.
