You know how we, and several thousands of other people said, “huh?,” when a “Raaaaaaaandy” film was announced last year? Raaaaaaandy, being the character played by comedian, Aziz Ansari in Judd Apatow’s dramedy, “Funny People.” Well, in your face Internet. Not only do Aziz and Judd Apatow think it’s a good idea, so does Quentin fuckin’ Tarantino. And lord knows if he says it’s a good idea. Boom, there goes your cynicism, Internet. Just like that.
“Yeah! That was one of the coolest things. I was at some party and he showed up and yelled “RAAAAAAAANDY!” I couldn’t believe it. I talked to him for a bit about it. One of the three movies we’re doing with Judd is a Randy movie; we’re not sure what order we’ll do them in. People on the Internet were like, “a Randy movie would be terrible!” How do you know? You think we just said “Randy movie” and didn’t think about it at all? But Quentin Tarantino was like, “Man, a Randy movie, I would love to see that!” So I just want to send a mass e-mail to all those Internet people who thought a Randy movie would be terrible: “You know who thinks it would be a great idea? Quentin Tarantino.”
We’d try to end this with something clever, but clearly the cultural jury has spoken. We’re good to go, people. Ansari is at currently at work on two other Apatow projects, “Let’s Do This,” a road trip movie about guys working at a motivational-speaking company, and an ‘Untitled Astronaut Movie,’ about “two disgraced astronauts who have to go back to space to clear their names.” Don’t get too excited he doesn’t reveal any other details that weren’t in the original reports. All these projects, including “Raaaaaaaandy,” sound a ways off.
Which one will come first? Too early to say, it’s vague and early days and it doesn’t sound like there are any finished screenplays yet. “Me and [director] Jason [Woliner] have been trying to do some early work on all three movies, and then once we get that planned, we’ll pick one and build a script on it,” he told the A.V. Club. “So we’re still in the early stages of trying to figure that out. We’re fleshing them out and then trying to pick one to move forward on.” Ansari also has the TV show “Parks & Recreation” keeping him rather busy as well.
Quentin Tarantino hasn't had a good idea since 1997.
$100 says "RAAAAAAAANDY!" is a better movie than "FUNNY PEOPLE" which was pretty terrible.
i don't understand. not only was randy unfunny in the movie, but the whole joke was that he was unfunny. plus i forgot the character existed except for the fact that this guy and apatow don't stop talking about how 'hilarious' he is. apparently studios gotta take their word for it.
unrelated. funny people was the biggest let down of the year.
I wanted to LOVE this flick (big fan of apatows previous two movies not to mention frks&gks) but the entire second half of the movie turns in to a love triangle between three characters you couldn't give less of a shit about. if it followed rogen and the smarter chick that burned him it mighta been interesting but who cares about three rich assholes deciding who to be rich assholes with?
ALSO this was a let down but UP was the most OVERRATED flick of the year.
it fine. but after the first ten minutes its not that good.
Seriously, a mean dog talking in a high pitched voice?
that's the only joke for a huge chunk of the movie. what an amazing idea.
Green Mile would've won made another 100 mill if michael clarke duncan took in helium before every take.
i love pixar but Up was barely better than Cars.
raaaandy would be dope
he needs to come to houston for a show
"Funny People" was one of the best movies of he year. The Randy character, however, had such a unmemorable and unimportant role I really can't say I'm EXTREMELY excited hat a spin-off of HIM is going to be made. I think Tarantino and Apaotow are awesome, though. I heard a few ass-clowns at a Starbucks one time saying all of Apatow's movies were just raunchy comedies. ARE YOU SERIOUS? They had as much heart as John Hues, another filmmaker these fucking shit-brains badmouthed.
