Quentin Tarantino Now Declares Israeli Revenge Thriller ‘Big Bad Wolves’ “The Best Film Of The Year”

nullAfter spending 2012 basking in the critical and commercial glow of "Django Unchained," it looks like Quentin Tarantino is ready to give back some of that love this year. He’s already dropped his Top Ten Films Of 2013 (So Far)—with a slightly altered version also surfacing—and took the time to compare "Snowpiercer" director Bong Joon-ho to Steven Spielberg. And Tarantino is not done yet dishing about the accolades.

In attendance at the Busan International Film Festival, Tarantino popped by for a Q&A following a screening of the Israeli film "Big Bad Wolves" written and directed by Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, and simply put, he loves it. "Not only is this the best film in Busan, this is the best film of the year," he said. And it’s certainly a film we really liked as well.

The revenge thriller follows detective Miki (Lior Ashkenazi) who stops at nothing in chasing down Dror (Rotem Keinan), a suspected child killer. And in our review from the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, we said it was "bold, beautifully told, and surprisingly funny."

Magnet Releasing currently has the U.S. rights for the movie, but no release date has been yet. And in case you’re wondering, it won’t be Israel’s Oscar entry this year—that honor goes to the procedural "Bethlehem." So for now, check out the trailer below. [Haaretz]

  1. Ooooff. Tarantino's taste in movies… Big Bad Wolves makes a laughing matter out of something that should never be laughed at and ends up choking on its own pretentious style by the time it's over. But this is Tarantino after all, the guy loves bad movies, so no surprise that he loved this movie so much.
