‘Prey’: Hulu To Release ‘Predator’ Prequel Next Summer

We’ve known for a while now that 20th Century Studios was hoping to reboot the “Predator” franchise with a new film in the series from director Dan Trachtenberg. The working title that was used during filming was simply called “Skulls,” but no other information was revealed. Now, as part of Disney+ Day, 20th Century Studios and Hulu have announced the new “Predator” film is actually called “Prey” and is coming to the streaming platform in 2022.

As revealed by Disney, “Prey” follows the story of a Comanche warrior, Naru (played by Amber Midthunder), who aims to prove her prowess by taking on the Predator 300 years ago. Obviously, this is set to be a prequel film to the original “Predator” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger from 1987.

“Prey” is far from the first time the “Predator” franchise has been revamped. In the 2000s, the Predator showed up in the crossover films, “Alien vs. Predator.” After that, there was an attempt to reboot the franchise with “Predators.” Most recently, in 2018, Shane Black took a stab at the film series with a soft reboot titled “The Predator.”

The new film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg. The filmmaker is probably best known for his debut feature, “10 Cloverfield Lane.” Since then, he’s worked on TV series such as “Black Mirror” and “The Boys.” His most recent work was on the pilot episode of “The Lost Symbol.”

“Prey” is set to arrive on Hulu sometime in summer 2022.

Here’s the synopsis:

Set in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, the action-thriller follows Naru, the skilled warrior who fiercely protects her tribe against a highly evolved alien predator
