Got a Tip?

Posters For ‘Zero Dark Thirty,’ ‘Trouble With The Curve,’ ‘Red Dawn,’ ‘Playing For Keeps’ & More

Lots of posters coming up, for a batch of movies that are the horizon, to screw in your eyeballs, sit down and buckle up….

First, we'd got the redacted style poster for Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty." In case you missed it, the first teaser trailer for the film dropped earlier this week and it's certainly some compelling stuff. But just one thing — the title is already a bit wonky (it's military speak for 30 minutes after midnight), so is blacking it out and then hoping whoever looks at the poster sees the web address at the bottom really the way to go? Who knows, we're not in marketing, but we think it's probably not the best move. But then again, the marketing campaign for this Osama Bin Laden manhunt flick has only just begun.

Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong, Joel Edgerton, Kyle Chandler, Jason Clarke, Scott Adkins, Jennifer Ehle, Chris Pratt, Édgar Ramirez, Frank Grillo, Nash Edgerton, and Mark Duplass star in the movie that hits December 19th. [HeyUGuys]

Another trailer that dropped this week was for Clint Eastwood's "Trouble With The Curve," which actually isn't directed by him but by his producing partner and pal, Robert Lorenz making his feature film debut. In the movie Clint plays — you guessed it — a crochety, grizzled old baseball scout, whose fading eyesight is putting an end to his trade that is being replaced by computers and know-it-all hot shots. But a final road trip with this daughter Amy Adams, to follow-up on a new recruit forces him to look at his life, while Justin Timberlake shows up as a young man who hopes to use his charms to impress both Clint and his grown-up kid.

Doesn't look like it's for us, but in case you care, it opens on September 21st. [RecentMoviePosters]null

Speaking of stuff not looking like our cup of tea, here comes the "Red Dawn" remake which hopes to be less offensive by vilifying North Koreans instead of the Chinese. Either way, some kind of Eastern foreigners are going to launch an attack on the United States, and the the only people to stop them will be Thor, that guy from 'Hunger Games,' that other guy from "The Wackness," whatsherface from "Friday Night Lights" and the blonde girl from Terrence Malick's upcoming "Knight Of Cups." Hooray? Sitting on the shelf for the past few years while MGM sorted their finances certainly doesn't help the movie's past-expiry-date premise seem any more releveant. But we'll get a better idea when the trailer drops tomorrow. "Red Dawn" waves the flag on November 21st. nullDribbling the ball and hoping to score on the soccer net of life, Gerard Butler is caught between love and a career in "Playing For Keeps." Directed by Gabrielle Muccino, the film tells the story of a former soccer pro, fallen on hard times post-career, who tries to revive a relationship with his ex-wife (Jessica Biel) by coaching their son's soccer team. However, Catherine Zeta-Jones has her eye on him as a possible sports broadcaster…and perhaps more, leading to music montages and emotions. The trailer for the movie was pretty tiresome, but here's hoping the supporting cast that includes Uma Thurman, Dennis Quaid and Judy Greer livens things up. "Playing For Keeps" takes the ball home on December 7th. [IMPA]nullWith the "Kick-Ass 2" continuing to cast up — Donald Faison was added as Dr. Gravity earlier this week — and become a reality, a not-so-shocking new logo has been revealed. It's basically the old logo with a spray-painted number two. Edgy! Jeff Wadlow ("Cry_Wolf") directs with Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and maybe Nicolas Cage returning. Production gears up this fall. [Facebook]null

Channing Tatum has been 3-for-3 so far this year with "The Vow," "21 Jump Street" and "Magic Mike." Can he add one more to his hit list?

Featuring an insane ensemble cast including Chris Pratt, Rosario Dawson, Justin Long, Oscar Issac, Kate Mara, Ron Livingston, Lynn Collins, Ari Graynor , Anthony Mackie, Max Minghella, Aubrey Plaza, Brian Geraghty and more, the indie drama follows Jake (Tatum), who is deeply in love with his girlfriend (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) and ready to propose—until he runs into his high school flame (Dawson) for the first time in ten years. Jake’s friend Cully (Pratt) married his cheerleader girlfriend (Graynor), and has been looking forward to the reunion so he can finally apologize to all the classmates he bullied in high school. However, after a few too many drinks, the jock-turned-family man ends up reverting back to his old ways instead. Meanwhile, longtime rivals Marty (Long) and A.J (Minghella) spend the night still trying to one-up each other to impress the coolest girl in class (Collins), who now has a secret. The famous one of the group, Reeves (Isaac) is now well-known musician, but is still too shy to talk to the high school crush (Mara) who inspired his one hit wonder.

We saw the film at TIFF last year and in our review we said, "There are a lot of stories and arcs we follow over the course of one evening but for the most part, the film is not as insightful or incisive as it sets out to be." See for yourself on September 21st. [EW]null

Finally, So Yong-Kim's "For Ellen" is heading to theaters and gets a pretty nice once sheet to go with it. Featuring the ecletic young cast of Paul Dano, Jena Malone, Jon Heder, Margartia Levieva and Dakota Johnson, the story follows a struggling musician (Dano) who battles his wife for custody of his daughter in a small upstate New York bordertown, with Malone playing his wife and Heder as a small town lawyer who Dano brings in to help. Our man in Sundance found the movie to be a tough one to watch, but see for yourself when it opens in theaters on September 5th or settle down with it at home on VOD starting September 19th.
