Got a Tip?

Poster Round-Up: ’21 Jump Street,’ ‘The Bourne Legacy,’ ‘John Dies At The End,’ ‘Detachment’ & ‘The Words’

nullAnother week into 2012, another cavalcade of posters hitting the web for a handful of new releases. First up is a new poster for Jonah Hill's '80s cop reboot, "21 Jump Street." The film isn't out until March but word out of a test screening last week was very strong, indicating that this is a rare spring release worth actually looking forward to. Riding the success of his understated turn in "Moneyball," the film finds Hill back in familiar, R-rated comedy territory, hitting theaters on March 16th. [Facebook]

With filming only recently having gotten underway, Universal figured they needed to start getting the word out for their Matt Damon-less entry in the Bourne franchise. This could explain why they've done the absolute bare minimum here for this teaser poster for "The Bourne Legacy." This is only slightly above the quality of something tossed off for the American Film Market or Cannes ("Untitled Bourne Film"), not really what you would expect from a major studio trying to drum up excitement for one of their most valuable franchises. But we're sure we'll be looking at something a little more polished in the coming months. The film lands August 3rd. Update: Teaser poster removed by request. It's not an official one sheet for the film. [Rope of Silicon]

Next up is "John Dies At the End," the latest mad concoction from "Phantasm" and "Bubba Ho-Tep" writer/director Don Coscarelli. The story centers around a street drug known as Soy Sauce that takes users on a headtrip that leaves some inhuman. It jumped onto our radar a few months ago with the positively batshit trailer. With the film set to unspool at Sundance in just about a week, our anticipation has only gone up. [AICN]

Looking at the cast for "Detachment," a drama about the decaying public education system, most people are probably wondering why they haven't heard more about the film. The all-star ensemble includes Adrien Brody, Christina Hendricks, Lucy Liu, James Caan, Marcia Gay Harden, Blythe Danner, Tim Blake Nelson, William Petersen and Bryan Cranston and behind the camera is the long-awaited return of "American History X" helmer Tony Kaye. Unfortunately the reviews for the most part at last year's Tribeca Film Festival were not kind, though audiences will have a chance to decide for themselves when it comes to VOD on February 24th. Last but not least is a nice little piece of art for an upcoming Sundance drama called "The Words." Starring Bradley Cooper, Olivia Wilde and Zoe Saldana, this drama features Cooper as a writer who steals another author's work and must suffer the moral consequences. [EW]
