John Cena has come a long way since “The Marine,” (2006) the WWE superstar’s first starring vehicle (which has since had so many sequels made without Cena that we’ve lost count). He followed up his not exactly rapturously received action debut with “12 Rounds,” (remember that movie?) and then the wrestler’s acting career seemed to be put on hold for a while (at the time it seemed like a good idea).
More recently though – like fellow WWE star, Dave Bautista – Cena’s work has revealed some talent. He was hilarious alongside Amy Schumer in “Trainwreck,” and, not unlike Bautista and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, perhaps the wrestler’s best bet is to poke fun at his hulking bodybuilder persona in between more serious, stunt-driven projects (“Blockers”). Last year, it was announced that Cena was set to star in Paramount Player’s new film, “Playing with Fire,” and the trailer for the actor/wrestler’s next comedy venture was just released.

Here’s the brief synopsis:
A crew of rugged fighters meet their match when attempting to rescue three rambunctious kids.
The WWE star also co-starred in ‘Transformers’ reboot, “Bumblebee,” last year. 2018 almost served as a reminder that Cena’s been around a while and he does have some charisma. Whether you’re a fan or not, there is a reason he’s long been one of the biggest faces for the world’s most well-known wrestling empire.

John Cena is also set to appear alongside Vin Diesel in the upcoming 9th installment of the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise, which “The Rock” will reportedly not be returning for (it seems Dwayne Johnson’s feud with Diesel means he’ll be leading the Hobbs’ spin-offs instead, so the two egos don’t continually butt heads). Cena is also slated to lend his voice abilities to Stephen Gaghan’s upcoming “The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle” – because, we were all asking for another “Doctor Dolittle” remake from the writer of “Traffic” and “Syriana” – and is also rumored to be in talks for James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad.”
In the meantime, you can catch Cena starring in the upcoming “Playing With Fire,” which also features Brianna Hildebrand, Judy Greer, Keegan-Michael Key, and John Leguizamo. Cena’s new comedy will be released on November 8 by Paramount Pictures.
