Each and every film, filmmaker François Ozon surprises audiences. Though a lot of his films share a similar tone and themes, the subject matter the filmmaker brings is often new and unique, such as in his upcoming film, “Peter Von Kant.”
“Peter Von Kant” is actually a loose remake of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s play-turned-film, “The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant,” which was released 50 years ago. Though the gender of the lead has changed, the film follows a similar story about a film director who becomes enamored with a young man of modest means. “Peter Von Kant” marks the second time Ozon has remade a Fassbinder project, after 2000’s “Water Drops on Burning Rocks,” which is adapted from a play by the renowned German auteur.

The French filmmaker is probably best known for his earlier films such as “8 Women” and “Swimming Pool.” More recently, he released the films “Everything Went Fine” and “Summer of ’85.”
Strand Releasing is set to release “Peter Von Kant” later this year in the US. It’s expected to hit French cinemas this summer.
