Got a Tip?

Peter Mayhew Returns As Chewbacca For ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New HopeWe may be headed to a galaxy far, far away, but the characters are looking very much the same. With production already started on "Star Wars: Episode 7," Disney exec Alan Horn admitted that casting was still being solidified. Well, here’s another puzzle piece put into place.

THR reports that the sixty-nine year-old Peter Mayhew will return as Chewbacca. Sigh. While Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher aren’t officially official just yet, this pretty much guarantees it. You can’t have Chewbacca in here without Han Solo, and you can’t have Han without… well, you get the idea. Anyway, we’re still not yet any closer to learning if rumored folks like John Boyega, Ed Speelers, Matthew James Thomas, Ray Fisher, Jesse Plemons and Lupita Nyong’o will join Adam Driver‘s villain of the picture. But of course, this being a J.J. Abrams joint, secrecy is paramount, so just keep guessing.

"Star Wars: Episode 7 — The Characters You Love, Again!" arrives on December 18, 2015.

  1. I can't get upset anymore. Disney, Filoni and all those @ssholes could give a crap about Star Wars. Its all about making money to them, as I guess they should. The Clone Wars show raped the original Clone Wars continuity, softening the hard edges that fans loved and giving it a cartoony stupidity that makes us all barf.
Star Wars Rebels will follow suit ,contaminating an era that was once golden and sacred into something cheesy and ridiculous. To me, Starkiller creating the rebellion was epic and exhilarating, and it will be created by a bunch of flat, kiddie characters in a stupid Millennium Falcon knockoff. My childhood has been destroyed.

  2. I wish you lot would stop whining about films……which is why Im glad they are not telling us anything about it….because all you people will do is bitch and complain

As for JJ, as a trekkie myself, I say his films are top notch and I believe Roddenberry would have been impressed. I have total faith that he will do a great job at reviving the star wars films, and as much I enjoy the EU, a new story is needed as the EU is a mess

  3. Bottom line is, either Chewbacca is in Han Solo flashbacks since he should be dead by this time, or they are throwing out the EU for the most part

  4. Of course Chewey could be there without Han. Have your seen Episiode III? That said, welcome back Mr. Mayhew. Wonderful news in and of itself!

  5. I wish all you damn little geeks would shut up about the EU and canon!!! Who gives a damn about the books or comics? Just accept that this is different from that. There are no major motion pictures out about the EU… So enjoy your EU via books/comics/cartoons, whatever… And let the movies stand on their own. Do you fools realize how childish and moronic you sound arguing about something that isn't real in the first place? I love the original Star Wars and excited they are continuing the saga years later with some original cast/characters. You whinny little dweebs and your never ending banter about the books and comics are like fingernails scratching down a black board!!! Enough already!

  6. Honestly I'm getting sick and tired of every single freakin detail about this movie getting covered everywhere. We're all going to be sick and tired of Star Wars 7 before Star Wars 7 is even released. Seriously just let the movie be made then assess it after its been released…………

  7. Most of the EU stories are trash, barely readable pap spewed forth by pulp hacks. Zahn did a good job with the Thrawn trilogy, but Kevin J Anderson is shite.
That said, Lucas could come up with the story, but scriptwriting and dialogue especially were not his forte, either. There is Not-a-Thing wrong with Mayhew and Chewbacca returning, as long as the current scriptwriters come up with a compelling story. If it's Prequel trilogy nonsense, they may as well stop now.

  8. This wont ruin Star Wars, (I'm an EU fan, it made Star Wars better by far) what is going to ruin Star Wars is the lens flare lightsaber battle. o.O

I'm sorry the movies, as far as storytelling goes, are all awful. What made the movies successful was the Special FX which were ahead of their time. Poor acting other than Alec, Harrison, and the voice of James. Face it, the expanded universe tells a better story. Personally? I prefer the Old Republic. Yeah, I might see it at a dollar theater where they serve beer.

  9. My god, there goes JJ changing it again… Chewbacca dies during the Yuuzhan Vong war, which is 10 years before this movie, and about 20 years after Episode 6. Its canon and its part of the EU, now all you cliche movie "fans" can go shove it, because your not a fan and are lazy to read some books/comics. I really hope this isn't true, or its a flashback or nightmare that still plagues Han Solo back on Sernpindal…

  10. Well, I'm guessing Luke must be a super jedi after facing his father and the Emperor in Episode 6! I bet you the new villain is an offspring or apprentice of the dark side they probably missed last time around thinking Darth and Darth Side out were the only ones. Leia could be a sith. Now that's a story! m/

  11. Seriously, people are getting upset that Peter Mayhew/Chewbacca may be in the next movie? Really? The man has paid his dues, let him be in the movie and be glad that he's around to still do it. Peter Mayhew has been loyal to Star Wars fans, time for the fans to show the same. The movie is going to be what it's going to be, show up and watch it or don't.

  12. If this is right, it's is almost a guarantee that they are saying F-you to all of the expanded universe fans, because Chewbacca died 20 years after episode 6, so unless he only appears in a flashback or as Chewbacca's nephew, Lowbacca, then it doesn't match up.

  13. I'll make everyone a deal. Everyone that's pissed off about things that are still being made, stay home when it hits theaters. If you must see it, wait until it's on DVD/BluRay. That way you can make your point to the corporate fat cats how you feel about their changes.

Everyone else, lets enjoy a movie theater that's not full of whiners.

    See, win-win.

  14. I wish theyd leave that damn jj abrams out of it. he's ruined star trek he's gonna ruin star wars now. I dont like anything he's had his hands on. it all pretty well sucks

  15. I remember Kathleen Kennedy early on talking about embracing the fan community by wanting to be open about what was going on, and not shrouding everything in secrecy, revealing juicy bits of info about the production here and there. But I guess as soon as Jar Jar Abrams came on board, he put a stop to all of that. 🙁

  16. What's wrong with having the same characters???

Aren't there about 8 movies with James Kirk? How many James Bond movies have there been? IDGI.

  17. For those bashing J.J. Abrams, give him a chance first Star Wars needs some fresh blood in it. Episodes 4-6 were pretty crappy. I am a huge Star Wars fan and not a Star Trek fan at all but I enjoyed J.J. Abrams job on it. First one I can actually say I liked. So chill everyone

  18. Chewbecca was in Episode 3 and the others weren't so it's not a given. He does have a life deb to Solo though, so unless the others are dead, then they should still be in contact with him.
