‘The Personal History Of David Copperfield’ Exclusive: Tilda Swinton Enforces Her “Donkey-Free Zone” In New Clip

It’s been a long year for the film, “The Personal History of David Copperfield.” After a warm reception at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, the comedic re-imagining of Charles Dickens’ classic story seemed poised to have a great run in theaters earlier in 2020. Then the pandemic hit and Searchlight had to quickly change plans for the release. Now, almost a full year after its world premiere, ‘David Copperfield’ is finally arriving in theaters.

And in honor of “The Personal History of David Copperfield” having a triumphant debut in US cinemas this week, we’re thrilled to offer our readers an exclusive clip from the film that not only showcases the fun comedy in Armando Iannucci’s feature, but also hints at the incredible cast. In the clip, we see David Copperfield, played by Dev Patel, interacting with Betsey Trotwood played by none other than Tilda Swinton. As we know from Swinton’s filmography, she is almost always perfect, and even in this brief clip, we see that she doesn’t disappoint in this new feature.

Joining Patel and Swinton in the cast are Aneurin Barnard, Peter Capaldi, Morfydd Clark, Daisy May Cooper, Rosalind Eleazar, Hugh Laurie, Ben Whishaw, Paul Whitehouse, Gwendoline Christie, Anthony Welsh, and Benedict Wong. As mentioned, the film is co-written and directed by Armando Iannucci, who is probably best known for his work on the Emmy-winning series, “Veep,” as well as films such as “The Death of Stalin” and “In the Loop.
