‘Peacemaker’: James Gunn Confirms Director Jody Hill Has Joined The DC Comics Series On HBO Max

Director James Gunn has a brand new DCEU film coming out next month, the R-Rated assemble action-comedy, “The Suicide Squad.” And as you likely already know, the filmmaker has expanded upon that world with “Peacemaker,” and HBO Max spin-off series that he created and wrote starring John Cena‘s breakout gun-totting patriotic character from the DC film.

The show has been shooting primarily in Vancouver, and James Gunn has taken to Twitter (See below) to finally confirm the involvement of one of the series’ directors, “Eastbound & Down” director Jody Hill

The Ronin first reported that Jody Hill (“Observe & Report“) would be directing on the DC Comics series back in late March. Other directors expected to direct episodes alongside Gunn and Hill on the show include Rosemary Rodriguez (“Jessica Jones“) and Brad Anderson (“Beirut,” “The Machinist“). Gunn will direct the pilot and probably a few other episodes as well.

Here is the official synopsis of the “Peacemaker” origin series from WarnerMedia that will debut on HBO Max in January:

“Oh f*ck, it’s Peacemaker! HBO Max is set to explore the origins of the Peacemaker character, the master of weapons from the highly anticipated upcoming The Suicide Squad film, in the new Max Starting action-adventure-comedy series Peacemaker. HBO Max has given a straight-to-series order of eight episodes for the first season of the show.”

“Peacemaker” star John Cena has been quite the busy guy with “F9: The Fast Saga” releasing last month and putting up some solid post-pandemic era box office numbers. The actor was also just announced as part of the cast lineup for the Henry Cavill-led spy film “Argyle” from director Matthew Vaughn (“Kick-Ass,” “Layer Cake,” “Stardust“).
