After winning the most Oscars of any film this year and a historic box office run, Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite” seems to be having even more success in the realm of streaming. According to Hulu (via IndieWire), not only is “Parasite” one of the most popular films to debut on the streaming service in 2020, the film is actually one of its most popular…period.

After being on the streaming service for just a week, Hulu says that “Parasite” has quickly become its most-watched independent film and foreign-language film. But the most impressive thing is that Bong’s film has become the second most-watched film on Hulu, period. Yes, after just a week, the South Korean film has already streamed so many times that it has beaten the lifetime numbers of just about everything else that Hulu has to offer.

These stats prove, once again, that “Parasite” is a monster success for its distributor, NEON, and Director Bong. Never before in the history of South Korean films has a project been able to have this much crossover appeal, especially in such a dramatic fashion. As mentioned, earlier this year, “Parasite” not only won Best International Feature at the Oscars, but the film also walked away with Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay, dominating a field that included works from filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Sam Mendes, Greta Gerwig, and Noah Baumbach, among others.
And the love for “Parasite” isn’t going to end anytime soon. Later this year, the Bong Joon Ho film has already been announced as joining the Criterion Collection, with a special edition release of the film expected to arrive on Blu-ray, joining another of the filmmaker’s works, “Memories of Murder.”
