Well, that was fast. Just a brief hint of an idea earlier today, the Tom Cruise sci-fi vehicle "Our Name Is Adam" is already earning big time attention from a studio that has been putting some big faith in the actor. Meanwhile, another project looks like it's being given its walking papers.
Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures is pursuing a high priced deal to land the movie with Cruise, and now some intriguing details about the movie penned by T.S. Nowlin ("Agent 13" with Rupert Wyatt and Charlize Theron attached) have emerged. Appparently, the movie is a "Back To The Future" style movie where Cruise would go back in time and meet his younger self. Miles Fisher, get your agent on the phone. This would mark yet another project at the studio with Cruise, who starred in last year's "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol," will lead "Jack Reacher" this December, and has megawatt sequels "Top Gun 2" and the inevitable "Mission: Impossible 5" brewing. Clearly, Paramount want to make sure he stays under their roof and hanging around the offices. Nothing is finalized yet, but contracts are expected to be signed.
However, as one comes on, another must go, and that picture is Ivan Reitman's football flick "Draft Day." The picture had gained heat in the last week with Kevin Costner coming aboard and the NFL lending their rare support to the dramedy about the manager of the Buffalo Bills trying to land the number one draft pick. But evidently there was only a very small window in which to make the picture, as Reitman will apparently shoot "Ghostbusters 3" next summer. Really? Didn't he just say last month it should be remade? Whatever, just another chain in the mess that is that franchise, so we're not going to believe anything until some concrete word comes out, but we suppose it's as good a reason as any to put "Draft Day" into turnaround.
So one up, one down at Paramount. And having just come off snagging Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf Of Wall Street," it looks like they're having a pretty good week.
I'm waiting for the day when Cruise makes a non-Sci Fi movie. What is this, three in a row for him?
Cruise can get any project he wants greenlit/funded…. Any1 can tell the guy successfully has studio boss connects and close friends who believe in him & his work. Its kind of unbeleivable if you ask me b/c he's prolly 1 of just a single handful (if that) that has that power…. Realy reminiscent of Jack Nicholson back in the day (who every1 knows got anything he wanted w/ the major studios).
