Well before he was Spider-Man, Tom Holland was best known for his acclaimed role in the musical, “Billy Elliott: The Musical,” where the actor could be found jumping and dancing around. Now, years later, it appears Holland is about to break out his dancing shoes once again for a Fred Astaire biopic, and he’s found the perfect director to bring the story to the screen, Paul King.

According to THR, Paul King has been brought on to direct the untitled Fred Astaire biopic that is slated to star Tom Holland in the lead role. The film is said to follow the story of Fred Astaire and his sister, Adele. The duo rose to prominence as a vaudeville act and were inseparable for years as performers. However, when Adele married in 1932, the performers broke up the act and Fred Astaire would go on as a solo star, becoming one of the biggest names in the world.
King is probably best known for his work on the two “Paddington” films, which have both earned near-universal acclaim. In addition, the filmmaker is currently putting the finishing touches on his “Wonka” film starring Timothee Chalamet. That film is said to be a prequel to “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and will follow a younger version of Willy Wonka. While it’s been a few years since it was announced, King was also attached to a monster film starring Ryan Reynolds, but it’s unclear when that film might actually happen.
As mentioned, Tom Holland is probably best known for his role as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, in recent years, he’s begun to take on different roles as well in films such as “Cherry,” “Uncharted,” “Chaos Walking,” and “The Devil All The Time.”
A release date for the Fred Astaire film is unknown at this time.
