Oscars 2019 In Memoriam: Burt Reynolds, Margot Kidder & More Celebrated As Stanley Donen & Others Left Out

One of the staples of any awards telecast, especially a show as big as last night’s Oscars, is the In Memoriam segment. This segment is the ceremony’s way of honoring those Hollywood figures that have passed away in the previous year. And while the video (which you can watch in its entirety below) is a sweet, and emotional, look back at some of the industry’s greatest, it’s also the time when eagle-eyed viewers can find out which deceased person gets snubbed.

After Eddie Vedder performed a somber tune during last year’s Oscars In Memoriam segment, this year, composer Gustavo Dudamel brought a John Williams musical piece to life to help celebrate the memories of those Hollywood lost. Names mentioned included Stan Lee, Burt Reynolds, Bernardo Bertolucci, Milos Forman, Nicolas Roeg, Penny Marshall, and more.

However, as we mentioned earlier, the annual Oscars In Memoriam segment is always met with a little controversy, as the video is known to leave out some notable names. And this year was no exception. Filmmaker Stanley Donen is one of the more obvious names left out of the video, considering he passed away just a day prior to the show. Perhaps the suddenness of the passing is the excuse the Academy will have for leaving him out of the piece.

Other names left out of the video include Academy Award nominees Carol Channing and Sondra Locke. Actors like R. Lee Ermey, Verne Troyer, Dick Miller, and John Mahoney also didn’t make the final cut. The latter is probably more well-known for his TV roles, which could be seen as a reason for leaving him out, however, he also starred in a variety of great films, including the ‘80s classic “Say Anything.”

That being said, the video below is still a beautiful look at some of the biggest names in Hollywood that left this Earth in the last year, and worth watching.
