It isn’t always easy for newcomers to break into the Oscar field, which made Mica Levi‘s nomination for Best Score for “Jackie” all the more remarkable. The composer’s work on Pablo Larrain‘s film is arguably as vital to its dramatic impact as Natalie Portman‘s Oscar nominated performance. And in a new talk with The Frame, Levi shares some insights into her work on the movie.
Perhaps most remarkably, she reveals she wrote the bulk of the music without seeing the movie, and even more, the stunning main theme, was the second to last piece she composed. Levi offers a fascinating overview of her work on “Jackie,” and it’s interesting to note that she wasn’t overly familiar with the history of Jackie Kennedy before diving into film. It’s all fascinating and well worth a listen below (it’s the second segment).
