When you’re looking for younger actors to take on roles in a film, you have to assume a filmmaker is on the hunt for the next big thing, right? Well, if that’s the barometer for success, filmmaker Daniel Minahan (“Six Feet Under,” “True Blood, “The Newsroom”) seems to have nailed the casting of his upcoming film, “On Swift Horses.”
According to Deadline, Minahan is set to direct “On Swift Horses,” featuring a cast that includes Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi, Will Poulter, Diego Calva, and Sasha Calle. The film is based on the novel by Shannon Pufahl, and the story follows a young married couple hoping to settle down after the husband returns from the Korean War. However, with the arrival of the husband’s younger brother, a love triangle begins. Then, when gambling is introduced, well, everything seems to start falling apart.
This cast is pretty incredible, right? You have Daisy Edgar-Jones, who broke out in a big way thanks to her role in “Normal People.” Since then, she has landed major role after major role (“Where The Crawdads Sing,” “Fresh,” etc.). Then there’s Jacob Elordi, one of the stars of “Euphoria,” a massive hit for HBO. Will Poulter has been around quite a bit, especially as a young actor, but he’s set to have his most significant role to date in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which debuts in May. Rounding out the cast are Calva and Calle; both are expected to be big names soon enough. Calva recently made his debut in Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon,” and Calle is set to break out thanks to her role as Supergirl in the upcoming “Flash” film in June.
Minahan is a veteran director with many TV credits to his name. He’s the filmmaker behind the award-winning “Halston” limited series, as well as shows such as “House of Cards,” “Homeland,” and “Game of Thrones.” He also directed the recent “Deadwood” feature film.
There’s no word on when we might see “On Swift Horses.” However, with this cast attached, it’ll easily be one of our most anticipated.
