Got a Tip?

Oh, Sam Mendes Apparently Will Direct Next Two Bond Movies Now

nullGeez, it’s been quite the topsy turvy week for the Bond franchise. Mere hours after names like Nicolas Winding Refn,  Ang Lee, Tom Hooper, David Yates and Shane Black were tossed around as considerations for the director’s chair of “Bond 24,” Sam Mendes went ahead and re-upped for the job himself. It was a surprising turn of the events, especially given that the “Skyfall” helmer said back in the spring that the prospect of directing another Bond movie made him “physically ill.” Well, it looks like he’s found a cure.

And even more, Showbiz 411 is now reporting that Mendes will “most likely Bond 25.” Damn. This will undoubtedly re-spark the rumors that floated last year that the next two installments of the series would be of a two-part story, something that was later scuttled. But with what must have been intense (and expensive) negotiations to get the guy who made “Skyfall,” the first billion dollar Bond, and with contracts still being drawn up for Daniel Craig to return, perhaps producers are looking to make the most of the talent they have while they still have them.

So yeah, it looks like the Mendes/Craig connection won’t be broken anytime soon with everyone involved hoping to repeat the success from last time around. Makes sense.

  1. Thought Skyfall had a great first act, but once Silva gets captured the film descends into just silliness (and not in a wink wink Roger Moore tongue in cheek way). Just sober, serious, and dumb.

  2. Craig IS getting old. I'd be happy if this was about Martin Campbell. As it is I'm looking more forward to Ritchie's "Man from U.N.C.L.E." than the next couple of 007 films.

  3. aaaahhhhhhhh but Daniel Craig is getting too old!
I found Skyfall pretty captivating until the last act. The safehouse shootout just seemed way too cliché. But yeah, Casino Royale was top notch.

  4. The third and fourth component is of course Conrad Halls amazin cinematography and Thomas Newmans score. Never been this excited for a Bond film before .
