Well that clearly didn't take very long. While Marvel's "The Avengers," has eclipsed "The Hunger Games" as the year's highest grossing film worldwide, the teen-friendly dystopian sensation (which is still the highest domestic grosser of the year so far) still has massive appeal and two more sequels to boot. And so Hollywood bottom feeders Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have announced that they've pulled out their crayons, kindergarten-safe scissors and scratch and sniff stickers, and will be assembling a spoof of the Lionsgate franchise. Naturally…
The genius writers behind the brilliant "Scary Movie" series (which the Wayans created) and parody films like "Epic Movie," these remora fish… filmmakers … have announced that they will be writing and directing a project called, "The Starving Games," which is a play off of "The Hunger Games," get it? We personally cannot wait for oh, so hilarious jokes about trying to outdo each other in trials of bulimia and anorexia.
While these bloodsuckers will focus on “The Hunger Games,” naturally, they’ll want to get as much bang for their buck as they can, and other targets of their parody will evidently include "The Avengers," "Sherlock Holmes" and the final "Harry Potter" film. Wild Bunch has already snapped up the rights in Germany, which is a scary thought about the lucrative potential this film might have in Deutschland.
On top of being the proud owners of a GED, Friedberg and Seltzer can also boast on their resumes such classics as "Vampires Suck," "Date Movie," "Meet the Spartans" and "Disaster Movie." Incidentally, the next "Scary Movie" offering will center its spoofs on "Black Swan," however, franchise alum Anna Faris is now moving on to more serious work (see "What's Your Number?"). [Variety]
I cannot understand why these two still get work.
Do you suppose there will be a scene where someone who would not ordinarily be rapping is rapping? These fellows are witty that way.
I thought the Wayans Brothers created the SCARY MOVIE franchise.
