Got a Tip?

Obviously: Disney Honcho Bob Iger Confirms ‘The Avengers 2’ Is In Development

null$200 million and change opening weekend in North America. Over $700 million worldwide. Of course there's going to be a sequel to "The Avengers."

But in case you had any doubts or worries, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that "The Avengers 2" is in development and that the success of Joss Whedon's film is “a great illustration of why we like Marvel so much.” In short. Money good. Hulk make money. Disney happy with money. Avengers toys people buy. Sequel get made. Cycle continue. The end.

Of course, all those details, like when it will hit theaters and who will direct (you can bet an online petition for Whedon to return will be started by the end of the day) and what it will even be about still need to be ironed out. But don't expect this at the mulitplex until at least 2015 as Marvel pretty much has their calendar planned out through 2014 with "Captain America 2," "Thor 2" and "Iron Man 3" all coming, and presumably buliding toward another superhero team up. We suppose Disney could pressure them into trying to make that 2014 date, but we don't see that happening. Hell, the mouse house is probably just happy to have something erase the memory of "John Carter." [Deadline]

  1. I can agree with everything said here up until the final sentence. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING is going to erase the memory of "John Carter." It will be known for years, if not decades, to come as the potential blockbuster that Walt Disney Studios threw away. Make no mistake, if it had had a tenth the advertizing that "The Avengers" had, with even a small portion of the merchandizing tie ins, or even if the half assed so called "critics" had bothered to actually know what they were watching and reported it fairly, the profits would have been there.

"The Avengers" is a great movie, there is no argument about that. But there's no reason to drag another great movie through the mud just because there wasn't enough information circulated about it beforehand to actually let the public know what it was about. Praise "The Avengers" all you want, but don't do it at the expense of "John Carter" and its fans.

  2. I'm not to up to date with The Avengers universe but one thing I know for sure is Spidey n Wolverine weren't the original avengers. All you guys keep complaining on how they should have been in there, well for one their not signed to marvel studios. Marvel needs to get the rights before that and if Columbia or Fox never gives it to Marvel then we will never see them in the avengers. This is only the 1st phase for the avengers, maybe they won't even be in phase 2 which I doubt will happen anyway but they can work a deal for phase 3 and we can get them movies rolling into a avengers 3 for the ultimate showdown to save the planet in a avengers 3phase trilogy. Now that I am awesome with.

  3. If Spiderman is ever in the Avengers 2 I hop its the Toby Maguire Spiderman because he was the original Spiderman and I belive in him as the real Spiderman and it should be the right thing to do. So please Marvel/Disney bring Toby's Spiderman in the Avengers 2 and make it a very good story line. Not just for me but all my friends and a girl of mine.

  4. i am a die hard spiderman fan he needs to be in the 2nd one i went to go see the avengers movie today it was bad ass but it was missing the #1 loved superhero in the whole spiderman when they were in new york city you would think spiderman would be there to fight by the side of hulk, captin america, hawk eye, black widow, ironman, and the mighty thor but he wasnt that was a real disappointment to me spiderman all the way that movie was awsome but bring on the amazing spider-man

  5. Avengers 2 is confirmed. Awesome. Now what needs to happen is for Marvel/Disney/Paramount to work with Sony and Fox to get the characters of Spider Man and Wolverine
added to the AVENGERS 2 line-up. Spiderman(Andrew Garfield) Wolverine (Hugh Jackman)
Both were official/unofficial members of the Avengers in the comics. Both belong in the upcoming Avengers sequel.

  6. If I was a betting man I'd say we're gonna get an Avengers film every 4 years. Marvel's Phase One started in 2008 with Iron Man. We got 'Avengers' in 2012. I'd bet 2016 for 'Avengers 2' & 2020 for 'Avengers 3'. Part 3 of course will make $300 million over it's weekend release thanks to inflation & Holograph Prices.
