He may not have the easiest name to remember, but superhero fans better get used to seeing it, as actor O-T Fagbenle is set to join Scarlet Johansson and the ever-growing cast of Marvel Studios’ “Black Widow.”
Deadline is reporting that Fagbenle is the latest actor to join the production, which has already cast Johansson (obvi), Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz in starring roles. Of course, considering this is a Marvel Studios production and we don’t know anything about films post-“Avengers: Endgame,” the exact roles and plot for “Black Widow” is being held back for now. Hell, even in the recent junket interviews for ‘Endgame,’ Johansson hasn’t even confirmed that “Black Widow” is a film she’s doing, even though its set to go before cameras in June.
Fagbenle is probably best known for his role in the critically-acclaimed Hulu series “The Handmaid’s Tale.” He is also known for his role on the popular British series “The Five,” as well as a role in the series “The Interceptor.” Obviously, even with “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Black Widow” will be the highest profile role in this career.
Directed by Cate Shoreland, who is best known for her film, “Lore,” “Black Widow” is set to be the first film to hit theaters from Marvel Studios in 2020. The film is written by Ned Benson and Jac Schaeffer, with the former contributing the most recent rewrite to the latter’s original work. It will follow “Spider-Man: Far From Home” at the beginning of Phase 4, or whatever Kevin Feige dubs the post-’Endgame’ MCU.
No release date has been set, but it’s assumed (based on Marvel Studios’ already-announced release dates) that “Black Widow” will arrive in May 2020.
