Got a Tip?

Nicole Kidman Seeks Vengeance In The New Trailer For Sofia Coppola’s ‘The Beguiled’

Sofia Coppola is in that rarified air of filmmakers. Every one of her films has debuted at a major film festival (“Somewhere” won Best Picture in Venice back in 2013) she’s had three of her films (including her debut “The Virgin Suicides”) premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Now with her latest, “The Beguiled,” she’s racking up her fourth time on the Croisette. While a “Beguiled” film already exists, 1971’s version by Don Siegel starring Clint Eastwood, Coppola’s is an adaptation of the original source material, Thomas P. Cullinan’s novel (originally published as “A Painted Devil”). And the drama boasts an exceptional cast that includes Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning and Kirsten Dunst.

However, all eyes may be on Kidman in France during Cannes; she’ll be in four major films at the festival. The four projects include Jane Campion’s “Top of the Lake,” sequel series, Yorgos Lanthimos’ “The Killing of a Sacred Deer,” (also with Colin Farrell), John Cameron Mitchell’s “How to Talk to Girls at Parties,” and of course, “The Beguiled.” Here’s the official synopsis:

“The Beguiled” is an atmospheric thriller from acclaimed writer/director Sofia Coppola. The story unfolds during the Civil War, at a Southern girls’ boarding school. Its sheltered young women take in an injured enemy soldier. As they provide refuge and tend to his wounds, the house is taken over with sexual tension and dangerous rivalries, and taboos are broken in an unexpected turn of events.

Starring Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning in addition to Emma Howard, Oona Laurence, Angourie Rice, and Addison Riecke, Focus Features will release “The Beguiled” on June 23, but of course, you’ll get to hear about it first at the Cannes Film Festival next month. Most anticipated film of the 2017 festival? Either way, critics and audiences will have high expectations for Coppola’s latest. Watch the new trailer and let us know what you think.
