Nicole Kidman kicked off her relationship with Amazon Studios last year with great success. Her role as Lucille Ball in Aaron Sorkin‘s “Being The Ricardos” nabbed her a Golden Globe for Best Actress – Drama win and a nomination for a Best Actress Oscar. She has “Expats” coming out on Amazon soon, too, based on Janice Y.K. Lee‘s 2016 novel “The Expatriates,” which she stars in and co-produces.
Deadline reports that in her third project with Amazon, Kidman will star and produce “Holland, Michigan,” a Hitchcockian smalltown thriller. Based on a script by “Manhunt” writer Andrew Sodroski, the feature involves secrets that lurk beneath the placid surface of a Midwestern town. Kidman will produce through her Blossom Films banner.
And Kidman has a great up-and-coming director on board for the new project. Mimi Cave, fresh off her success at Sundance with her divisive feature debut “Fresh,” will direct the film. That film, about a young woman whose weekend getaway with her meet-cute boyfriend leads to a mind-bending cannibalistic bloodbath, has similar themes of secret lives in public spaces like “Holland, Michigan.” Cave feels like a good fit, even if plot details on the new movie are hard to come by.
Kidman has a lot on her plate before she starts work on “Holland, Michigan.” She just starred in Robert Eggers‘ “The Northman,” and reprises her role as Atlanna in next year’s DCEU sequel “Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom.” Earlier this week, Netflix announced Kidman will reunite with her co-star from “The Paperboy,” Zac Efron, on a new romantic comedy from Richard LaGravenese. The actress was also in “Nine Perfect Strangers” last year on Hulu.
Will Nicole Kidman find more success with Amazon in “Holland, Michigan”? Remember, “Expats” comes first in her Amazon release schedule, but with Cave on board, this thriller sounds like it will be a winner.
