Got a Tip?

Nicolas Cage May Lead John McTiernan’s ‘Red Squad,’ Director Says He’s Penned ‘Thomas Crown Affair’ Sequel

Kick-Ass, Nicholas Cage

Action director John McTiernan‘s trouble with the law may soon be ending (read all about it here) which means he’ll soon be able to get back to work. And earlier this year, his first post-prison project “Red Squad” made some headlines, but not much has been heard since. But if all goes well, it looks like he’s found a leading man.

THR reports that Nicolas Cage (of course) is attached to “Red Squad,” penned by Cam Cannon and Jorge Suarez, about a band of mercenaries who face off against a drug lord in a Mexican border town. Cool beans, right? Well, not so fast. More legal troubles including foreclosure and bankruptcy could complicate things as that matter still has to go before the courts, so don’t cross your fingers just yet. (We don’t know all the legal mumbo jumbo, but hit the trade for all the details).

And the same goes for a sequel to “The Thomas Crown Affair,” with McTiernan telling Empire earlier this year he’s got a script ready to go called “Thomas Crown And The Missing Lioness.” “Nebuchadnezzar had two lion statues commissioned in 1100BC: a male and a female,” the director said, explaining the title. “Alexander the Great took them when he conquered Persia. Mark Antony had them taken to Rome. Constantine moved them to Constantinople. And at some point the lioness went missing. The movie is about what happens when it turns up at an auction. By the way, it’s all bullshit; none of that ever happened.”

Again, the chances of that happening seem like a long shot, but at any rate, McTiernan is itching to go and lining up some options, so hopefully he’ll be at work on something and putting the legal stuff behind him.
