Got a Tip?

Updated: Nick Cave & Warren Ellis’ ‘The Road’ Soundtrack Hits Digitally On January 12

Update: We know have the album cover and the tracklist. There are 17 tracks on the album, which is great; a lot more cues than we expected.

Since Nick Cave & Warren Ellis’ White Lunar soundtrack compilation album came out earlier this year with about a half a dozen tracks from the duo’s lugubrious and heartbroken score to John Hillcoat’s post-apocalyptic drama, “The Road,” we just sort of assume that would be it and there would be no full soundtrack.

Fortunately we were wrong. It’s a bit after the fact, “The Road” hits theaters November 25, but something is better than nothing: a full The Road OST soundtrack disc will arrive on January 12 digitally via Mute records.

Cave described his and Ellis take on the soundtrack saying, “The movie is about the loss of things, the absence of things, the lack of things. The lack of the wife/mother is present in every frame of the film. The delicate edifice of the film holds the ache of her absence, tenderly and by the tips of the fingers. The music was composed as a direct response to the film. A light, haunting, simple score with a sense of absence and loss at its heart.”

No album artwork yet or tracklisting, but we’ll probably have an update later in the day, we’re sure. We’ve already revealed to you about five songs from the soundtrack that you can hear here, but here’s a few of them listed below just for ease.

“The Road” stars Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee, with appearances by Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall and Guy Pearce. We saw it at TIFF and you can read our full review here (we liked it, but noted that it might be a little bleak for some).
