Got a Tip?

New X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Photos Revealed, Matthew Vaughn Explains Why He Left The Franchise

X-Men Days Of Future Past

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Meaning the “X-Men” of Bryan Singer’s original series and the younger versions of those characters in the Matthew Vaughn-directed prequel, “X-Men: First Class.” What a better way to give Marvel’s “The Avengers” a run for their money then make a time-spanning picture that features more than 20 heroes and villains. Of course, that many characters is also a recipe of disaster potentially, but we’ve voiced those concerns in the past, so that’s that.

But why did Vaughn bail on the series after the semi-successful prequel? “It didn’t excite me enough,” Vaughn told Empire (via CB.com) recently about ‘First Class.’ “The thing that was exciting about it was bringing all these actors together. What a cast! But I’ve worked with great actors and I just thought, ‘I’ve got to do my own thing. The script was great for X-Men, but I had ‘Secret Service’ in my head,” Vaughn added. “And this has always been [director Bryan Singer’s] machine. It’s come full circle.”

Much of the ‘Days of Future Past cast is going back to Montreal for reshoots, but that’s par for the course on a gigantic film like this. “X-Men: Days of Future Past” stars every almost everyone who’s ever been involved with an “X-Men” movie and it hits theaters May 23, 2014. Lots of new images and promo photos below. Last thought, wasn’t Professor Xavier paralyzed in the last film? Why is he seen walking around in so many of the recent stills? Is it just his MIND self? DISCUSS.

  1. I dont understand the paralyzed thing either. Can I also point out that at the end of First Class is when he got paralyzed, then in Last Stand the older Prof X just walks into Jean's house like its nbd? Explain!!

  2. The statement sounds coerced LOL. I bet he pitched an idea but when Fox gave Bryan Singer room to pitch his version of a sequel they clearly liked his idea better and went with that. Fox is clearly in the mindset of wanting to release content that can compete with MCU Phase Two and the new DC franchise coming out. An epic time travel/multiple timeline X-Men movie with a huge amount of characters sound better than a direct sequel to First Class. He got the boot and he's probably under contract to not say much more than what he already has!

  3. "But why did Vaughn bail on the series after the semi-successful prequel? “It didn’t excite me enough,” Vaughn told Empire recently about 'First Class.' "

This sentence doesn't make sense. Why would he not be excited about a film he already had done (First Class)? Or was he saying that Days of Future Past didn't excite him?

  4. is it just me but in the new character poster showing young Charles Xavier i does look like he is sitting in a wheelchair if looking at the way he is having his arms and hands it's like his hands are grabbing the armrests of a wheelchair. so if you're asking me I think that is pretty much confirming that the pictures we has seen him standing is just him projecting an image of himself from a probably safe place.
