Well, there’s more news streaming in on the “Watchmen” front. It seems as if the alternate ending cooked up by Zack Snyder that we reported on last week may have been an elaborate scheme to test audience response to tampering with the source material. As usual, spoilers lie ahead–read no further if you haven’t read the comic or don’t want to know about the movie’s (alleged) ending.
According to io9, the Portland, OR test screening may have been a scam staged by the studio to gauge the reaction fans would have to a squidless “Watchmen.” Even
Kevin Smith got in on the action, offering his
defense of the different ending. So, did Snyder in fact excise the interdimensional space squid that destroys New York in the comic in favor of an
Ozymandias arranged,
Dr. Manhattan-esque nuking of the Big Apple? Or is this just more misinformation designed to whip the already frenzied masses into a full-blown fanboy hysteria? Hopefully, we can find out March 6 of next year. Unless, of course,
Fox has its say.
