Here’s our theory on Paul Greengrass’ Iraq war thriller, “Green Zone,” starring Matt Damon as a U.S. Army officer whose discovery of covert and faulty intelligence leads him to go rogue as he hunts for Weapons on Mass Destruction in an unstable region.
Oh and btw, here’s the new U.K. poster. If this thing were simply called “Bourne 4: Whatchamacalit,” sheep would flock in droves to this thing.
But nevermind that it’s the same director and star, making what looks like a very similar type of film, only with political undertones (the studio would gasp at the word, “overtones), audiences are probably gonna go, “Eye-rack waaaar? Meh.”
We could be wrong and we hope to be proven wrong, but it just feels like you could set Jason Bourne in Iraq make it an explicitly open Iraq war film (rather then the implicit one they’re trying to sell) and the lemmings would run to it like a cliff with a neon side that said, “jump off here!”
“Green Zone” opens March 12, 2010 in the U.S. Here’s the International trailer and the Stateside version if you haven’t seen them.
