Got a Tip?

New Trailer For ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ Finds The Rebel Alliance On A Dangerous Mission

While the verdict is still out on whether or not those reshoots were par for the course and an attempt to make Gareth Edwards‘ movie the best it can be, or Lucasfilm and Disney hitting the panic button, it speaks to the long standing power of the brand, that we’re still pretty damn excited for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” The first spinoff from the main saga is gearing up to tell a tale of heroism, while bringing back a classic villain.

Looming in the corner of the new poster is Darth Vader himself, and the Death Star, with Felicity Jones‘ Jyn Erso teaming up with a band of misfits to steal the plans for the death machine, and get them into the hands of the Rebel Alliance. Here’s the official synopsis:

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Co-starring Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” opens on December 16th.

  1. The elements sounded perfect. Better, even, than “The Force Awakens.” Even the idea of reshoots didn’t faze me. But from the first teaser on, “Rogue One” just seems so…flat. I am not sure if it is the crazy quilt of accents delivering lines in a stilted way (it takes waaaay too much work to figure out what everyone is saying or even what the emphasis of the lines are) or the whole “restrained and realistic” approach that Edwards and Fraser took (which is completely disconnected from any other film in the “Star Wars” universe) but it really doesn’t feel like a “Star Wars” film. Sure, it has a Death Star and a Darth Vader. But where’s the crackle and life? The trailers seem to just drone on.

Hoping for the best, but getting a sinking feeling this isn’t working.

Because, so far, it looks dead inside. Like “Star Wars” was bodysnatched.
