Got a Tip?

New Trailer For Roman Polanski’s ‘The Ghost Writer’

With Roman Polanski’s “The Ghost Writer” set to debut at the Berlinale in February and then hit theaters shortly thereafter, a proper trailer has finally arrived replacing the shortest teaser for a film we’ve ever seen.

The latest footage gives us our first real insight into the film and it doesn’t look half bad. While the plot – revolving around a ghost writer who is drawn into a world of sexual and political intrigue when he is hired to finish the memoirs of a former British Prime Minister – seems like fairly boilerplate stuff, the mood looks intoxicating. Drenched in rain and shadow, “The Ghost Writer” feels more like a noir than a political thriller. We’re not quite convinced by Kim Cattrall’s accent and we’re still wondering what Jim Belushi will be doing in this, but hope those will only be minor distractions.

The film, which is rumored to be a not so thinly veiled criticism of Tony Blair’s administration, ends with this provocative quote: “Name me one decision I made in my ten years as Prime Minister which wasn’t in the interest of the USA?” Yikes.

“The Ghost Writer,” starring Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Olivia Wiliams and Tom Wilkinson is set for a spring release by Summit Entertainment.

  1. Despite some of the odd casting of C-level American actors (Kim Catrell, Belushi), this looks surprisingly good. It could all be terrible, but it makes for a fine trailer.
