Got a Tip?

New Poster & Trailer For Animated Film ‘Rango’ Starring Johnny Depp

After dropping a thoroughly baffling teaser earlier in the month, Paramount wised up and have finally given us our first proper look at the Gore Verbinski animated film “Rango.”

For whatever inane reason, details on the plot are being kept under wraps, but it apparently follows a “chameleon with an identity crisis.” Anyway, the first half of the spot is actually pretty dull as the presumably titular lizard tries to outfox a vulture. But things get a bit more interesting and even “Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas”-style surreal in the second half as the lizard seems to encounter a range of weirdos at a border town. Also that giant mechanical fish shows up again. Have a look at the trailer, and yeah, that’s the poster for the film on the left.

The stacked cast includes Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Bill Nighy, Stephen Root, Ray Winstone, Beth Grant, Ned Beatty, Harry Dean Stanton and Alfred Molina and the film opens on March 18, 2011.

  1. The animation looks great and the setting looks unique, very dark for a children's film. It's about a lizard who is constantly in danger of dying. And I think it's fair to say that there will be numerous Fear and Loathing references. The Hawaiian shirt is one, and he crashes into Hunter S. Thompson's car late in the trailer (you can see the iconic aviators and hat)

    This looks like fun
