Last month, a French trailer for Julian Schnabel’s new film “Miral” starring Freido Pinto (“Slumdog Millionaire”) arrived. Today we’ve got a new poster and a bunch of images via Rope of Silicon.
To recap, “Miral,” adapted by Rula Jebreal from her novel of the same name, revolves around a real orphanage in Jerusalem set up by a Palestinian woman (Hiam Abbass). Freida Pinto seems to take center stage here as a former inhabitant of the orphanage.
The film does look a bit more conventional than his last film, 2007’s solemn “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly,” but there’s obviously a political angle at work and perhaps that lends itself to a less visually-experimental work.
The picture also stars Willem Dafoe, Yasmine Elmasri, Alexander Siddig and Vanessa Redgrave.
The film is scheduled to hit December 3 via The Weinstein Company and yes, expect a major Oscar for-your-consideration campaign with its timely subject matter. More photos below.
I'm still not sure the guy's much of a painter, but damn if his posters and opening titles don't always look great.
I wish anyone but the Weinsteins were handling this.
