Compared to some of its summer blockbuster superhero competition — “Iron Man 3” and “Man Of Steel” — “The Wolverine” has been playing its cards close to its chest. We’ve seen a smattering of images, and lots of encouraging talk from director James Mangold and star Hugh Jackman, but not a frame of footage so far, and in general the film’s a little more under the radar than its rivals, though we suppose that’s fair enough, given that it won’t hit theaters ’til much later.
But now the movie’s promo efforts are taking a turn. 20th Century Fox are certainly hoping that this will be the week of “The Wolverine” — a trailer arrives later in the week, and this morning sees the debut of two new posters and a brace of images from the film.
The posters — one from the official Twitter feed, one from Coming Soon — are definitely a step down from the excellent teaser one-sheet, in part because they evoke the Logan-drops-to-his-knees-and-screams-at-the-sky shot that only appeared in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” roughly one million times. The images, meanwhile, are from EW, and include first looks at Mariko (Tao Okamoto), the woman that Logan is meant to protect from the Yakuza, poisonous villain Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova) and the mysterious and ass-kicking Yukio (Rila Fukushima).

This looks really bad. It looks like a Tekken movie. I am predicting it won't get very good reviews.
All of the photos from the movie are stunning! I canât wait to experience this part of Loganâs journey, and to prepare I have been watching his story again with Blockbuster @Home from DISH. Itâs nice that with my busy work shift at DISH, I have the option of in store exchanges with how often I forget to send back something. With my impatience, I love not having to wait, and watching his story again has helped me understand his state of mind leading into this film.
Heh. the ninja poster IS hilariously bad. Glad I'm not the only one.
Ninja poster is god-awful. The costume design worries me a little. Can't help but giggle at Wolverine's corporate look, in full blades mode.
Still looking forward to it though, it seems they want to take the material seriously and I hope it's not just marketing talk. I've believed so many junket interviews where directors and actors claim "this one is really different because…" only to end up watching the same rubbish we've seen since the dawn of the blockbuster.

The ninja poster is atrocious. Cool idea, horrible execution. Nevertheless, I am still really excited for this. When will see a trailer for it?
