Got a Tip?

New Pics For Angelina Jolie’s ‘In The Land Of Blood & Honey’ & David Gordon Green’s ‘The Sitter’

nullOne movie is gunning for Oscar, while the other wants to tickle your funny bone, and both have new images. See how we tenuously tied these two films together?!

Let's start with the awards season movie. While it was certainly savvy of writer/director Angelina Jolie to film her debut feature, “In the Land of Blood and Honey” in both English and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, it must have been kind of awkward on set, doing take after take of this dramatic, bloody war film in its intended language and then, "Once more for the VOD market!"

Jolie and her distributor FilmDistrict are (thankfully) going with the Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian subtitled version for theatres, keeping the authenticity for the story set during the Bosnian war that follows a Bosnian man who is fighting for the Serbs (Goran Kostic) and a Bosnian woman (Zana Marjanovic) who is his enemy, but they kind of love each other…? It sounds like pretty heavy/complicated stuff, and it’ll be interesting to see if Jolie is up to the task.

A surprisingly good trailer for 'Blood and Honey' dropped last month, but so far there is no word on whether or not the movie itself is any good. It's very possible that the Oscar qualifying December 23rd release could get some Golden Globe love, though, (after all, “The Tourist” did) as the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Globes does not require a movie to be a representative for a specific country, as the Academy does. Hence the Globe win for "Letters from Iwo Jima."

AllMoviePhoto have a couple of new pics, including one of Jolie behind a monitor in full-on director mode. We are looking forward to this one.

Meanwhile, it seems as though David Gordon Green will be jumping off the populist comedy express when he directs his next project, an adaptation of the romance novel "Q." Green certainly did have a helluva studio run, though. A lot of people thought "Pineapple Express" would be a one-off stoner excursion, but Green followed that up with a film that featured Danny McBride with a minotaur’s penis around his neck (“Your Highness”). We're pretty sure that scene made Green the first Criterion Collection filmmaker to feature a minotaur’s penis in a film. At least in a comedic context.

Before he returns to the world of dramatic filmmaking, though, Green has given us a going away present in the form of "The Sitter," a hard-R take on "Adventures in Babysitting"-type films. The flick stars Jonah Hill, who takes three precocious kids on a trip to New York City so that he can have sex with a girl (Ari Graynor). Along the way there's a lot of mischief, mayhem, and even some gunplay, courtesy of a drug dealing Sam Rockwell. This looks like some interesting awards season counter-programming, and we have faith in Green and Hill, and hope they pulled off something amusing with this one. A slew of new pics from the film have dropped in anticipation of its December 9th release, just in time to qualify for the Academy Awards.
