Got a Tip?

New Looks At Julie Delpy & Chris Rock In ‘2 Days In New York’ & Paul Dano In ‘For Ellen’

nullJulie Delpy’s last two directorial efforts, 2009’s “The Countess” and this year’s “Le Skylab,” have yet to receive U.S. theatrical distribution, but her latest Sundance entry, “2 Days in New York,” should get distributors’ tongues wagging. The sequel to Delpy’s 2007 critical hit “2 Days in Paris,” co-stars Chris Rock and features New York (obviously), a city that can charm the pants off most anyone. The follow-up to Delpy's charming and underrated film will find her character, Marion, relocated to New York with a new lover, Mingus (Rock), and a child; sorry folks, no Adam Goldberg this time around. Things will get a bit hairy as the clash of cultural backgrounds is brought to the fore when her family and ex-boyfriend come to visit. This stress will be compounded by an upcoming photo exhibit as well. If it's half as funny and painful as the first film, we're in.

Meanwhile, So Yong Kim makes films that are frustrating at first, but eventually so sweet and heartbreaking that you can’t help but embrace them. Her debut feature, “In Between Days,” won a Special Jury Prize for Independent Vision at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival (shared with co-writer/producer/husband Bradley Rust Gray). Kim quickly followed ‘Days’ with 2008’s “Treeless Mountain,” but she’s taken four years to release her third film, which will finally debut at Sundance 2012. “For Ellen” stars Paul Dano, Jon Heder, and Jena Malone and tells the story of a struggling musician who battles his wife for custody of his daughter in a small upstate New York bordertown. Malone and Dano are always dependable, and here’s hoping Heder surprises us all with a nuanced turn as a young lawyer assisting Dano.

  1. I loved 2 Days in Paris…but a lot of that had to do with Adam Goldberg and his annoying but charming personality (plus the chemistry). Julie Delpy is great, so here's hoping there's some chemistry to be had between this unlikely pair.
