More images have been unveiled of historical drama “Meek’s Cutoff,” the next highly-anticipated feature from director Kelly Reichardt (“Old Joy,” “Wendy & Lucy”).
The film stars Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Zoe Kazan, Shirley Henderson, Neal Huff, Will Patton as well as Bruce Greenwood, who will play the titular historical figure Stephen Meek — the hired guide for the story’s ill fated expedition from Fort Laramie to Willamette Valley in 1845.
The images again depict the desolate Oregon environment, as seen in the first image, and seemingly affirm the grim, desperate tone of the true story which was somewhat mirrored in Reichardt’s own rough shoot plagued by illness. We’re very much looking forward to this one as the tale seems perfect for Reichardt’s sensibilities and continues her exploration of Oregon while being the most ambitious, expansive project yet for the director.
The film premieres in competition at the Venice Film Festival next month before screening at the New York Film Festival but probably won’t see a theatrical bow until next year. [IMDB]
