While Jean-Baptiste Mondino might not be a household name, you've likely seen his work. A director and photographer, he's helmed music videos for a variety of folks like Madonna, David Bowie, Prince, Björk and Tom Waits and recently got behind the camera for the Dolce & Gabbana ad featuring Scarlett Johansson. Mondino also worked extensively on the campaign for "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" for David Fincher, shooting the breast-baring teaser poster as well as the memorable spread for Le Monde featuring Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig dressed as their characters, but in new images not from the film.
Well, Mondino is wielding his camera again, this time doing promos for one of the most anticipated films of the Cannes Film Festival. Some new snaps have arrived of Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenaerts in Jacques Audiard's "Rust & Bone." They are relatively simple, but no less effective for it, showing each in their roles projecting the strength and vulnerability they'll likely be bringing to the film. Adapted from the short stories by Canadian author Craig Davidson, the film follows the relationship between a homeless man (Schoenaerts) and a trainer of killer whales in a sea park (Cotillard) who loses her legs in a horrific accident.
Anyway, it's another tease for a movie that that is already one of the most buzzed about on the Croisette, and the noise will only get louder in the weeks to come. The Cannes Film Festival kicks off on May 16th. [French Cinema via eternalsojourn]
Beautiful!
Cotillard's face reminds me so much of Audrey Hepburn because she may not be the greatest actress but here beauty really sells you on the character. I'm so glad she has the oscar and hope maybe she could win a second.
so natural and powerful.
She is stunning. I hope she will win a prize in Cannes for RUST AND BONE and in Venice for LOW LIFE.
Thanks for mentioning this and people should have a look at the volumes of his shooting for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, they are impactly cool.
What a captivating woman. Delicate, strong, whimsical, sensual, mysterious–Cotillard's face says everything.
Gorgeous.
Beautiful…..
