Fans of the clever and surprisingly moving Swedish vampire movie “Let The Right One In” have been up in arms ever since it was announced that it was going to be given an American makeover by none other than Matt Reeves (“Cloverfield”). However, upon the arrival of the first teaser, doubts have begun to diminish and with the latest trailer unveiled at Comic-Con, those naysayers may be quieted altogether.
Surprisingly low on jump scares and high on atmosphere, “Let Me In” seems to be reverential of its source material and directed with a subtle hand by Reeves. However, whether this will find an audience outside of core fans still remains a question as with no major stars on board and the storyline being kept a bit of mystery, it will be interesting to see how this one plays out. Our biggest complaint: where’s the crazy cat lady?
The film starring Kodi-Smith McPhee, Chloe Moretz and Richard Jenkins opens on October 1st. And despite earlier rumors that Overture might not have the cash to give the film a proper release, it was announced late last week that Relativity Media would be stepping in to assist in the distribution.
unnecessary remake
I predict Boffo box office.
Dude, give Elias Koteas some love, won't ya? He's also in this
I was gonna shit on the manipulative nature of the trailer and Chloe Moretz's halfway-there performance, then I realized Elias Koteas has a mustache. Sweet, sweet Elias Koteas.
I continue to be torn about 'Let Me In'. On one hand, 'Let the Right One In' was so good that it should stand alone.
On the other, the reality is too many Americans will not watch a foreign film, and I'd rather have a remake expose more people to the story than them not seeing it at all.
