Cinephiles waited patiently throughout 2014 for Werner Herzog‘s "Queen Of The Desert," but when it finally debuted this year at the Berlin Film Festival, the response was a bit muted. The movie about traveler, writer, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer, and political attaché Gertrude Bell was described our critic as weirdly non-Herzog-ian, and largely a "stodgy historical biopic." So, a bit of a disappointment perhaps, but one the rest of us still want to see for ourselves.
Nicole Kidman takes the lead role, with supporting turns from James Franco, Robert Pattinson, and Damian Lewis, in the film that details Bell’s career, romances, and more. No matter what the movie looks like, Herzog seems to bring his always great eye for visuals, and these new images from the movie provide yet another look at the grand vistas and period settings.
No U.S. release date yet, so until news arrives, these pics will have to suffice. [Robert Pattinson Worldwide and QOTD]
Beautiful images.
I just love sweeping biopics. Will definitely watch. Not a Franco fan though. I was a little surprised that hecwas cast. Peter bradshaw of the gurdian enjoyed Pattinson\’s \’brief\’ appearance as a young Lawrence. So yes, hope to see it in the fall
Will wait for a trailer before deciding whether I will go see the film.
Nicole Kidman – despite recent downbeat critique – remains the finest Screen actor of her generation… look forward to seeing this.
SO excited for this film still! Nicole Kidman truly is one of the only talents that continues to work with left-of-field directors and makes bold career moves.
I\’m surely gonna watch this film. It seems to be visually very beautiful and Bell\’s life was fascinating.
It was Herzog who made the movie so it was definitely Herzogian but maybe he handled a style people weren\’t used of him. It\’s kind of sad that moviegoers expect some directors like Herzog, Cronenberg to use the same style over and over again.
Apparently the part with James Franco was rather boring and there wasn\’t enough Lawrence (Pattinson) in it. Anyway I hope to watch the film on the big screen.
look on cigs and red vines there is a story about a new 70mm film from PTA…you should make a post about that
