True stories and tragedy seem to be drawing Naomi Watts' attention these days. Though Oscar talk has quieted a bit, the actress stars in this month's disaster drama "The Impossible," and she spent the fall shooting the Princess Diana flick "Diana." And if all goes according to plan, she'll feature in Andrew Dominik's Marilyn Monroe film "Blonde." And some new pics have landed to today allowing us to see Watts in action as a princess in love and a mother in peril.
First up, a couple of names from Oliver Hirschbiegel's "Diana" — formerly known as "Caught In Flight" — have dropped. We've already seen how closely she resembles the late princess, and these snaps are further proof. Penned by Steven Jeffreys ("The Libertine"), the film will focus on Diana's affair with Dr. Hasnat Kahn (played by "Lost" star Naveen Andrews) that lasted from 1995 until a few months before her death in 1997. He was regarded by many to be the love of her life, and she was said to be devastated when the relationship was over, with some speculating that she dated Dodi Fayed in order to make him jealous. No release dates yet, but this will likely do some festival damage next year.
Meanwhile, a few more images of "The Impossible" have also appeared, with Watts as the matriarch of a British family who are torn apart by the devastating 2004 tsuanmi. While we had our issues with the movie, Watts gives a strong turn as a woman both in physical and emotional pain. The picture opens in limited release on December 21st. More below.
